Graduate Requirements
The M.Ed. in Art Education emphasizes academic mastery of Art Education with a research paper or thesis requirement. We have designed two programs; one is designed for graduate students who are already certified in art education, and the other offers a program for art education graduate students to earn their degree and K-12 teacher certification.
Individuals admitted to the program who are certified are required to be certified art teachers within one of the fifty states; non-United States citizens must provide proof that they have met the requirements to teach art in their respective countries.
These programs attract talented, dedicated, and self-motivated graduate students who wish to become more informed about pedagogy and professional research. The conceptual framework advocates a model of art education that encourages graduate students to become leaders in their field. "Teacher as Instructional leader" is Mansfield University's theme for advanced teacher education. Students must have an undergraduate GPA: 3.0 or above to be admitted to the program. Interested students must also submit and pass a
portfolio review.
